How gaming vests work to give you that unmatched adrenaline rush

Using some of the most advanced technology around, gaming vests are able to replicate the effects of bullet fire and other contact like nothing else available.

There are 8 contact points, 4 on your chest and 4 on your back.

At each of these points there is a small pouch that contains air. When you receive a hit in the game, one or more of these pouches will quickly fill with air to simulate the impact.

The technology behind the air pouches use is pneumatic actuators and micro compressors. This means the pouches are able to deliver to you a blow of 30 pounds per square inch, or psi (2.1 kilograms per square centimeter).

Because each contact point works independently of the others, a spray of bullets across your chest will be felt with several impacts in various places. This means no matter what game you are playing you will be immersed in a whole new level of realistic gaming.

To experience G-Forces the 4 contact points (either your chest or back depending on direction) deliver a controlled sensation so that you can feel as if you are really in the vehicle in the game.

So, how does this all work with your game?

Well, there is a pouch located at the bottom of the vest which contains the points where you plug in the leads.

These leads then attach to your PC to link it all up. You will also get an air compression pump to keep your air pouches in the correct working order.

There is work in progress to offer a wireless gaming vest but at the moment there is no expected launch date. When a wireless version does become available then an upgrade kit will be launched.

There will also be an upgrade kit when the vests achieve compatibility with consoles such as the PS3, Wii, and XBox 360. Developed for doctors, used by gamers

Believe it or not gaming vests were actually developed as a high precision instrument for medical professionals to use. In the early 90's Texas prisons initiated a 'telemedicine project' which allowed prisoners to be seen by a doctor via telephone.

A nurse would apply pressure in the areas directed by the doctor who was on the telephone and feedback if the patient felt any discomfort.

Because this method of examination was by no means perfect, a pioneering doctor called Ombrellaro set about finding a better way to carry out tests.

This lead to what we now know as the gaming vest.

The idea was that the patient would wear the vest and the doctor on the other end of the phone could activate the different air pouches around the body to establish where a patient felt pain or discomfort. This therefore eliminated the need for the nurse and the human error associated with it.
