Improving a PC role playing game

Upgrading a gaming computerComputer Role Playing games (CRPG) come from the same genre as Video role playing games and as such are quite similar except that it is developed for the home PC. The layout remains the same.

The games are based on stories which are elaborated to fit in characters and maps and attributes etc. The earliest CRPG was on the lines of Dungeons and Dragons and fantasy tale, which is already scripted.

The player gets a team to battle with the evil doers to complete a quest. In the process the player and his or her team collects weapons and other attributes to succeed in their mission.

As the game continues the player collects magical powers for his/her weapons and for the team. The game carries on till the player is able to complete his/her mission or is defeated by the villains.

The PC Role Playing Games are based on fantasies with magical powers for the player or science fictions or historical setting. Statistical development of the characters regarding weapon skill, stamina, strength, etc. is integral part of such games that intensifies the appeal by manifold.

These games can be played by single player on the home computer or it can be designed for multiple players where the games are played online with real people and real time. At times there are hundreds of players playing together where alliances are developed to defeat another group.

They collect new skills and attributes as the levels advances. These games are basically mind play requiring strategy and constant interaction among the players over e-mail or chatting.

Regarding improving PC Role Playing Game, some people are of the opinion that the sources of CRPG should be more innovative. The game developers should find new sources to develop games. They should go for games which have been played with conventional methods and has never been developed for computers.

There are many themes of fantasy and science  fiction which are rather popular and can easily be translated into CRPG. The old Dungeon and Dragon kind of games though interesting have nothing new to offer. It will be a challenge if a new suitable engine can be built that can introduce a model by which users will be encouraged to plan their campaign themselves.

The plots in CRPG are preset to a similar outcome every time it is played. Some kind of system can be developed where the player can influence the plot and arrive at a logical conclusion every time it is played by every player.

The game should emphasize on the plot and be non linear. This would indeed take these games to a higher level. This would need some incorporation of artificial intelligence into the systems.
